The Benefits of CAFE Membership

CAFE offers two types of memberships, Family Business and Advisor memberships, each with unique benefits focusing on CAFE’s underlying mandate to provide forums to facilitate “shared experience”.  

 

Family Business Members:  Benefit from Shared Experience

To help you navigate the unique and sometimes problematic dynamics of family business CAFE offers:   

  • Involvement in a Personal Advisory Group (PAG):  Your own dedicated "board of advisors" - Probably the most common challenge family business members face is isolation – it is often difficult to discuss problems with other family members, and those outside family business often don’t understand the nuances of family enterprise.  Participation in a Personal Advisory Group (PAG) helps resolve this problem by linking you with a group of 8-12 CAFE members from different non-competing family businesses who meet monthly to support each other by sharing both personal and business experiences in a confidential and supportive environment.  Learn more about how a PAG can help you. 
  • Ongoing Educational Programming -  Another challenge those in business families face is gaining access to education, information and resources specific to family enterprise.  CAFE and its chapters regularly facilitate and host workshops, seminars and webinars featuring the industry’s foremost family business experts and advisors.  Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, a wide range of complicated topics are covered such as succession planning and implementation, taxation issues and financing, family law and estate planning, ownership transition, selling the firm outside the family, family conflict and rivalry, and conflict resolution and mediation.   • Opportunities to network, share and learn at CAFE events - Be sure to attend CAFE Symposium, a biennial conference consisting of two jam-packed days of presentations and interactive workshops delivered by industry and family business experts. CAFE Symposium is the ultimate forum for business families and advisors from across Canada to learn, network and share ideas.  Join us each year to help recognize and celebrate the vital contribution family business makes to the Canadian and local economies at the Family Enterprise of the Year Award (FEYA) gala.  
  • Find a trusted Family Business Advisor with recognized accreditation and experience working with business families.
  • Learn and share experiences by participating in our online social media community.
  • In addition to these benefits, each CAFE chapter offers unique programming and events.  
  • Membership in a national organization dedicated to helping you succeed - you are not alone!

 

Advisor Members:  Join the Conversation

Professionals and professional firms who provide advice, support and services to family business are encouraged to join the conversation and benefit from:

  • Opportunities to network and connect with CAFE members at our social and educational events, workshops and seminars 
  • Hosting and presenting educational workshops, seminars, webinars, and special events for CAFE members.
  • Extending your brand by sponsoring local and national CAFE events
  • Add to your knowledge and skills and strengthen your practice by attending CAFE educational programs
