CAFE friends and family are invited to join us for this gala celebration including a cocktail reception, followed by a three course gourmet dinner and family business stories from the three FEYA Award finalists from across Canada. Our members have told us that including their families and friends at this special event is very important to them. Therefore we have changed the format from a week night après work business event, to a spectacular Saturday evening social for friends and the whole family! Introducing some of this Year's Chapter Finalists for the Canadian FEYA Award...

Dempsey Corporation (CAFE Central Ontario)
Today, with over 70 employees, Dempsey Corporation is a full-service distributor of specialty chemical products and food additives. They have focused their efforts on building a comprehensive product line across three divisions; specialty food ingredients, specialty industrial chemicals, skin care and promotional gift-with-purchase products. Their headquarters are located in Toronto, with branch offices across Canada, and wholly owned subsidiaries in the USA and France. The family's active involvement in the operation of the business continues to this day, as already a team from the third generation is now part of the success of the company.

Valley Pulp & Sawdust Carriers Ltd. (CAFE Vancouver Region)
Founded in 1963, 'Grandpa' Neil began the company when he purchased their first truck to haul firewood and sawdust from local sawmills to farms. Years later, his children and their children help drive the business forward with the company's fleet of twenty trucks traveling over one million kilometers each year, transporting wood residuals such as Sawdust, Bark Mulch & Hog Fuel for use in agriculture, landscaping and the pulp & paper industry. The company employs over fifty people, with twenty members of the Klassen family involved in day-to-day operations, from locations in Abbotsford, Mission, Maple Ridge and Merritt, BC.

Archway Insurance (CAFE Nova Scotia)
In 1985 Garry Stack left the world of banking to become an entrepreneur. He purchased a small insurance brokerage in Yarmouth, got his insurance license, and began working round the clock with his wife Jane to build his business. The company rebranded itself as Archway Insurance in 2011, and is now one of the top brokerages in Atlantic Canada. Archway provides quality careers for approximately 50 people (including 6 family members) in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and is actively transitioning from first to second generation management and ownership.

PR Investments Inc (CAFE Regina)
The story of this business, which renovates and manages rental suites in Regina, Moose Jaw, Fort Qu'Appelle and Yorkton, can be traced back to 1984. In that year, Tim and Wade Probe's father, who was a farmer, bought a 46-unit rental property in Moose Jaw as an investment. Today, the brothers manage 425 suites and employ 19 employees including great management caretakers - a key to the success of their business.

Country Grocer (CAFE Vancouver Island)

Country Grocer is a Vancouver Island and Salt Spring Island family-owned and operated grocery chain operating since 1984 with stores in Victoria, Cobble Hill, Salt Spring Island, Lake Cowichan and Nanaimo. Twelve family members are involved in the business and a succession plan is in progress. Their proudest achievement is the involvement of eight next gens. Even with their quick growth, they have remained committed to their core values, ensuring that selection, service and community support were integrated into the operation and development of all their stores.

McCabe Promotional Advertising Inc. (CAFE Southwestern Ontario)
Established in 1981 on their kitchen table, McCabe Promotional Advertising Inc. is now second generation and housed within a 14,000 square foot building including operations, showroom and warehousing and employing over 40 talented people.

Phoenix Recycling Inc. (CAFE Manitoba)
Phoenix Recycling Inc. was started in October 1991 by Kristjan Backman. Kristjan started out with a Ford half ton truck and provided recycling services to small business. Today Phoenix provides integrated record management, document destruction and recycling programs to over 1700 businesses in Manitoba.

Canyon Plumbing & Heating (CAFE Calgary)
Canyon Plumbing & Heating started in 1978 as a plumbing and heating contractor serving the residential housing construction market, and currently provides an extensive range of plumbing services in Calgary and the surrounding area. Canyon established Calgary's first plumbing showroom in 1997 and earning the SAM Award as Trade Partner of the Year in 1998.
