CAFE CAFE Canada Zend_Feed_Writer 1.6.1 (http://framework.zend.com) http://www.cafecanada.ca/ CAFE Stands With Fort McMurray I have no doubt you are watching with concern the frightening situation unfolding in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The wildfires have forced a mandatory evacuation of people from their homes and businesses (many of which are family businesses); some leaving with just the clothes on their backs.

This is the largest fire evacuation in Alberta's history with tens of thousands displaced and the situation could get worse with rapidly changing weather conditions.

Family Business Leaders Unite To Discuss Intergenerational Harmony and Success CALGARY, AB, February 17, 2016 - Multi-generational family business leaders from across Canada will meet in Calgary May 16-18, 2016 at the Family Business Symposium to share insights on how to avoid the “shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations” phenomenon. This proverbial old saying describes the fact that relatively few family businesses survive into the 3rd generation. The conference, conducted annually by the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFE), is the only one of its kind in Canada and focuses on “building strong families for successful transitions.”

CAFE supports proposed bill to correct tax system flaw affecting family business transfers Oakville, ON, June 11, 2015 - The Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFE) lent it’s support to a new private member’s bill introduced in the House of Commons today by Emmanuel Dubourg, Liberal MP for Bourassa. Bill C-691, if passed, will change the Income Tax Act and lessen the tax burden imposed on business owners who transfer along their business to their children or grandchildren. Under the existing tax rules, business owners selling their business to family members pay more tax than if they were selling to a third party.

Canadian Family Business Leaders Assemble to Share Best Practices OAKVILLE, ON, May 5, 2015 /CNW/ - Leaders of family businesses from across Canada will converge in Toronto May 20-22, 2015 for the Family Business Symposium hosted by the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFE).  This year's event features educational workshops and keynote presentations from such prominent family business leaders as Rob Sobey of Sobeys/Empire Inc., Tim Hogarth of Pioneer Energy, Llewellyn Smith of E.D. Smiths & Sons, and Toronto's own Larry Rosen of Harry Rosen's. The conference's theme of 'helping business families succeed' is appropriate considering family business constitutes an estimated 80% of all businesses worldwide and 70-90% of global GDP. Baby-boomers are retiring in increasing numbers and many family businesses must deal with the transition of the family's business and wealth in coming years.
