About Symposium

The Canadian Association of Family Enterprise was established in 1983 by a prominent group of family business owners whose mission was to inspire and promote the well-being and understanding of the family in business.   Over the past two decades, CAFE has evolved as a national organization touching on the lives of thousands across through its 14 active chapters.

To celebrate business families, CAFE is proud to present the National Symposium, which represents a unique opportunity for family businesses from across Canada to meet and discuss common goals. The Symposium has been held every two years since 1989. In 2010 we are proud to welcome CAFE members, both Family and Associates, to Regina on May 26th – 28th. This invaluable opportunity to learn, network and share ideas will host approximately 300 delegates from every province.

Leaders of Family businesses from across Canada will hear from Experts with the most current trends and best practices to provide information. They will hear inspiration, with life changing keynotes like Frank O’Dea the founder of Second Cup. Finally they will be challenged and coached to innovate and succeed beyond anything achieved to date.

The benefit of taking this kind of training as a family is it helps level the playing field; it is not one family member trying to teach the other.  It prompted some good discussion and forced us to check our attitudes and beliefs on certain topics.  Being together for four days allowed us connect in a way that may have taken years to accomplish otherwise, especially since we work and live in different provinces.
